These are rollercoaster times for Airbnb. Earlier this year CEO Brian Chesky said he expected the unicorn's revenue to drop to less than half of what it was in 2019 as the COVID-19 pandemic drives away business and in May, he laid-off about 25% of his workforce.
But things slowly improved for the rental giant as the pandemic wore on. Although the company's revenue declined almost 70 percent in the second quarter year-over-year, global vacation rentals from companies including Airbnb bounced back up 127 percent from a low in April.
Rumours have abounded that Airbnb would go ahead with its long-expected IPO anyway this year. In August, the company confirmed that it had filed the initial confidential paperwork to the SEC, although it did not share when it planned to go public or any other details.
IPO or not, Airbnb is a massive operation with a valuation still well into the billions. And now, months after its layoffs, Airbnb is hiring again, particularly in engineering, but also for data science and a smattering of other roles.
So how much can you make working for Airbnb? Companies have to disclose to the federal government how much they pay workers through the H-1B visa program, an important part of how Silicon Valley gathers talent from around the world. The Office of Foreign Labor Certification makes that information public annually.
Business Insider went through data released in 2020, which included jobs hired for up to the last six years, to discover how much Airbnb pays designers, data scientists, and other roles. In a word, it pays them well.
This is annual salary data only and does not include other compensation such as stock or bonuses. When there were multiple entries of hires for the same title, we included the range of salaries paid. Although not a complete picture of how much the tech giant pays its workers, the information still provides rare insight into an otherwise private company.
Check out how much Airbnb is willing to pay its workers below.
